I was sorry to read of the difficulties you outlined in your petition letter, and I have carefully considered your request to waive the one-year petition deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant that request.
Based on your circumstances and documentation, I will also drop GPHY 209, GPHY 314, GPHY 351, GPHY 368 (F 2020); GPHY 229, GPHY 254, GPHY 330, GPHY 402 (W 202); GPHY 209, GPHY 330, GPHY 351, GPHY 368 (F 2021); and GPHY 229, GPHY 319, GPHY 352, GPHY 402 (W 2022) late due to the circumstances outlined and documentation provided. The grades in these courses will be changed to DR notations on your transcript which will subsequently increase your GPA. You will then be assessed regarding your restriction on proceeding to an Honours degree.
I have granted this petition based on the challenges you outlined as well as your documentation, but let me remind you that going forward, you should pause and evaluate your progress in your courses during week 7 of term and drop courses that you are behind in, or not achieving the grades you desire, by the week 8 drop date deadline. The drop deadlines, as they have been outlined in the “Important Dates” section on the Arts and Science web page, have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure a fair and equitable treatment of all students at Queen's.
Another tool to manage your academics in addition to dropping a course by the drop date deadline is our Academic Consideration protocol. A student can request short term consideration if they need more time to complete an assignment or had to miss a class due to documented extenuating circumstances. Dil, I strongly encourage you continue to work with your support persons and to proactively manage the impact of your challenges on your academics. If you have not yet registered with QSAS, I encourage you to discuss this option with your health care provider since a QSAS Advisor may be able to put in place appropriate accommodations to help you manage the impact of your challenges on your academics.
Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
