Instructor: Diane Orihel

Dear Zara:

I have carefully considered your appeal for Aegrotat Standing in BIOL 111 (W23). After reviewing your file and the information that I received from your instructor, I have decided to grant your request.

I recognize that you wanted to complete the outstanding work in this course through an Extension of an Incomplete Grade however this could not be facilitated by your instructor as the outstanding components could not be recreated at this time. I will grant this request for Aegrotat Standing in BIOL 111 (W23), but I want you to know that this was a lenient decision as the documentation that you supplied reports that your extenuating circumstances began before the Winter term began and that you were supported professionally before the academic drop deadline.

Going forward, you are responsible for managing the academic impacts of your condition proactively by utilizing the professional and academic supports available to you. It is the student’s responsibility to pause and evaluate the impact of extenuating circumstances on their classes during week 7 of the term. If they have fallen behind in a course or find the material too difficult, they should drop the course by week 8 of term. The drop deadlines, outlined in the “Important Dates” section on the Faculty of Arts and Science web page, have been established to ensure fair and equitable treatment of all students.

Your instructor of BIOL 111 (W23) has submitted a replacement grade based on the work that you had completed and this grade of ‘B+’ will appear on your transcript along with the notation “Aegrotat: estimated grade”.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.

Sincerely,

Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
