I have carefully considered your petition for Credit Standing in CHEM 321, CHEM 323 (W23) and PHYS 118 (S23). After reviewing your file, I have decided to deny your request.
As you know, Academic Appeal and Petition Regulation 3.3.1.4. states that, "Credit standing is reserved for a course in which a student who has completed all of the work of the class, including the final examination, and achieved a passing grade in the class, but due to illness or other extenuating circumstances beyond their control, earned a substantially lower grade than might have been expected.” The integrity of Arts and Science transcripts in general would be greatly diminished if the Faculty were to effect changes to students’ records without clear and compelling documentation indicating that the student’s performance was significantly compromised by circumstances beyond their control.
While I acknowledge the extenuating circumstances that you experienced during both the Winter and Summer terms, the documentation that you supplied does not confirm the timeline of these circumstances nor does it suggest an academic impact on your courses. I am sympathetic to your situation and understand that this is a difficult decision however, without documentation to confirm a specific impact on components within these particular courses that would warrant adjustments to your official transcript, I cannot grant your request.
I want you to know that it is never recommended for a student to write an exam while they are experiencing academic impacts from an extenuating circumstance or they are unwell. I encourage you to familiarize yourself with Academic Consideration queensu.ca/artsci/undergrad-students/academic-consideration-for-students in case you need to utilize this academic service in the future.
If you are concerned with the impact that these courses have on your cumulative GPA, I would suggest that you consider repeating them in a future term. When repeating the exact same course code, both attempts will appear on your transcript however only the higher attempt will be included within the calculation of your cumulative GPA.
