Dear Ben,

I have reviewed your request to Waive the Petition Deadline related to the 2022 Winter term and to drop ECON 332 (F22), ASTR 101 and EMPR 200 (W23) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant these requests and I will also allow you to drop ECON 280, POLS 244, POLS 367, POLS 395 (W22) after the academic deadline without having to submit a subsequent petition.

Your grades in ECON 280, POLS 244, POLS 367, POLS 395 (W22), ECON 332 (F22), ASTR 101, and EMPR 200 (W23) will be replaced with a DR notation on your transcript and these courses will no longer be included within the calculation of your GPA.

I acknowledge that you were not able to submit this request within the 1-year petition deadline and I have granted this request due to the severity and academic impacts of your extenuating circumstances during these terms as confirmed by the documentation that you supplied.

Going forward, it is the student’s responsibility to pause and evaluate the impact of extenuating circumstances on their classes during week 7 of the term. If they have fallen behind in a course or find the material too difficult, they should drop the course by week 8 of term. The drop deadlines, outlined in the “Important Dates” section on the Faculty of Arts and Science web page, have been established to ensure fair and equitable treatment of all students.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
