Dear Sean Cooke,

I have reviewed your petition to drop GEOL 107 and PHGY 170 (F23) after the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.

Sean, I want you to know that this was a lenient decision. The petition process is not meant to be used to manage a chronic condition and future petitions for these circumstances may not be as successful. I have granted this request due to the ongoing academic impacts of your extenuating circumstances as confirmed with the documentation you supplied.

Going forward, it is the student’s responsibility to pause and evaluate the impact of extenuating circumstances on their classes during week 7 of the term. If they have fallen behind in a course or find the material too difficult, they should drop the course by week 8 of term. The drop deadlines, outlined in the “Important Dates” section on the Faculty of Arts and Science web page, have been established to ensure fair and equitable treatment of all students.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.

Sincerely,

Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
Associate Dean (Academic)
