Dear David,

I have reviewed your request to waive the petition deadline related to the 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 academic years. I have also considered your request to drop SOCY 284, HIST 461 (F22), SOCY 336, SOCY 302, and HIST 400 (W23) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant these requests.

I will also allow you to drop SOCY 225 (F20), SOCY 227, HIST 498, HIST 252, HIST 228 (W21), HIST 216 (F21) and HIST 259 (W22) after the academic deadline without having to submit a subsequent petition.

Your grades in these courses will be replaced with a DR notation on your transcript. Please know that a student cannot petition to remove this notation.

I have granted these requests as the documentation that you supplied attests to an unaccommodated disability and confirms the timeline, severity, and academic impacts of your extenuating circumstances during these academic years.

Going forward, it is the student’s responsibility to pause and evaluate the impact of extenuating circumstances on their classes during week 7 of the term. If they have fallen behind in a course or find the material too difficult, they should drop the course by week 8 of term. The drop deadlines, outlined in the “Important Dates” section on the Faculty of Arts and Science web page, have been established to ensure fair and equitable treatment of all students.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
