Dear Napoleon:
I have carefully considered your petition request to drop CISC 101 (F23) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to deny your request.
As you know, courses must be dropped on SOLUS within the published deadlines. The Academic Regulations (Appeal of Academic Decisions, IIIb) stress that exceptions to this will only be waived under "extenuating circumstances." The integrity of Arts and Science transcripts in general would be greatly diminished if the Faculty were to effect changes to students’ records without clear and compelling documentation indicating that the student’s performance was significantly compromised by circumstances beyond their control.
I am sympathetic to your situation and understand that this is a difficult decision, however, I want you to know that I considered this request very thoroughly. In making this decision, I reviewed your petition letter, and the documentation that you supplied dated December 14, 2023.
I recognize that this is the second time that you have attempted this course and that due to a flare up of a chronic health issue, you have not been able to complete it. I have denied this request as the documentation that you supplied does not indicate the timeline that you experienced the flare up during the 2023 Fall term nor it confirm any academic impacts on CISC 101. I want to remind you that the Petitions Office attempted to contact you via email on multiple occasions asking for additional documentation however, non has been received to date.
Going forward, I would suggest that you remain connected with your Queen’s Student Accessibility Services (QSAS) Counsellor throughout each term for help manage the ongoing impacts of your health on your academics.
