Dear Joe:

I have reviewed your petition to apply for more than 6.0 units on an International Letter of Permission during the 2024/2025 academic year. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.

As you know, Regulation 14.4 indicates that “[normally] the last two years of the Honours degree are taken in the Faculty of Arts and Science at Queen’s.” However, due to the extenuating circumstances that you are experiencing and the support that you have received from your Department, I will allow you to take up to 33.0 units of courses (15.0 units of HIST and 18.0 units of electives) at Western University during the 2024/2025 academic year.

Please know that students are allowed to enrol in a maximum of 18.0 units per term including courses taken at other institutions. If you intend to take some of your remaining electives through Arts and Science online at Queen’s while you are attending Western, please know that space in these online classes may be limited and so you should attempt to enroll in them as soon as your appointment time allows you to do so.

Also, you should know that some courses from other institutions are not available for transfer credit. Once you determine which courses you wish to take through Western, you may apply for a Letter of Permission through SOLUS.

Note that official transcripts with final grades must be received by the Faculty of Arts and Science Student Services office upon completion of the courses. Please keep in mind that you must achieve a minimum grade of C on each course taken on a Letter of Permission, unless stated otherwise.

Finally, please be advised that you are allowed to complete a maximum of 57.0 transfer units toward your BA Honours degree (see Academic Regulation 16.1.3) with a maximum of 24.0 units toward your HIST Major.

I wish you well in your studies next year,

Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
