I have carefully considered your petition to drop BIOL 103 and CHEM 281 (F23) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.
Your grade in these courses will be replaced with a DR notation on your transcript.
I have granted this request due to the academic impacts of your extenuating circumstances as confirmed within the documentation that you supplied. I also want to note that your documentation suggests a reduction in course load however, I see that you are currently enrolled in 5 courses during the Winter term. Going forward, it is the student’s responsibility to pause and evaluate the impact of extenuating circumstances on their classes during week 7 of the term. If they have fallen behind in a course or find the material too difficult, they should drop the course by week 8 of term. The drop deadlines, outlined in the “Important Dates” section on the Faculty of Arts and Science web page, have been established to ensure fair and equitable treatment of all students.
Kaavreet, I also want to let you know that the petition process is not meant to be used to manage a chronic condition and future petitions for these same circumstances may not be as successful. Academic impacts from ongoing circumstances should be managed proactively by dropping courses prior to the academic deadline and utilizing options such as academic consideration or accommodations through Queen’s Student Accessibility Services (QSAS).
Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
