I have carefully considered your petition request to drop HIST 125, HLTH 101, PSYC 100 (S23) and ASTR 102 (F23) past the academic deadline and for Credit Standing in ECON 452 (F23). After reviewing your file, I have decided the following:
To grant your request to drop HIST 125, HLTH 101, PSYC 100 (S23) and ASTR 102 (F23) after the academic deadline. Your grades in these courses will be replaced by a DR notation on your transcript.
Matthew, I want you to know that allowing you to drop ASTR 102 after the Fall term drop deadline was a lenient decision as although I understand that you missed the first 4 weeks of the term due to the continued impacts of your extenuating circumstances, you continued to remain enrolled in more than the recommended number of courses past the academic drop deadline. Going forward, it is the student’s responsibility to pause and evaluate the impact of extenuating circumstances on their classes during week 7 of the term. If they have fallen behind in a course or find the material too difficult, they should drop the course by week 8 of term. The drop deadlines, outlined in the “Important Dates” section on the Faculty of Arts and Science web page, have been established to ensure fair and equitable treatment of all students.
To deny your request for Credit Standing in ECON 452 (F23). I am sympathetic to your situation and understand that this is a difficult decision, however, I want you to know that I considered this request very thoroughly. In making this decision, I reviewed your petition letter, the documentation that you supplied and the information that I received from your instructor related to your grades in this course.
I acknowledge that you were unable to attend school during the month of September as confirmed within the documentation that you supplied. It is my understanding that the instructor of ECON 452 accommodated you appropriately by allowing you to be excused from the in-person work in their class. I have denied this part of your request as the instructor has confirmed that you did not meet the learning outcomes of this course based on the only graded components in it – your Course Project and Report.
If you are concerned with the impact that this course has on your GPA, I would suggest that you consider repeating it in a future term. When repeating the exact same course code, both attempts will appear on your transcript however, only the higher grade will be included within the calculation of your cumulative GPA.
