I have carefully considered your request for an Extension of an Incomplete Grade in in POLS 243 and POLS 339 (F23). After reviewing your file and the information supplied by the instructor of these courses, I have decided to grant the following:
To grant your request for an Extension of an Incomplete in POLS 243 (F23) due to the timeline and academic impacts of extenuating circumstances as confirmed within the documentation that you supplied, as well as the strong support that I have received from the instructors of this course. It is your responsibility to connect with both instructors of POLS 243 (F23) to make the appropriate arrangements to complete the outstanding components during the current 2024 Summer term.
To deny your request for an Extension of an Incomplete Grade in POLS 339 (F23) as you had not completed enough of the course to be eligible for this academic option. According to Academic Petition and Appeal regulation 3.3.1.5. “Normally such requests are considered if the student has participated actively in the class and only one or two elements of the course work have not been completed due to extenuating circumstances beyond the student’s control. Students with extenuating circumstances who have been unable to complete the majority of the work in a class should consider a petition to drop a class after the deadline rather than an extension of the deadline to submit incomplete work.”
I am sympathetic to your situation and understand that this is a difficult decision, however, I want you to know that I considered this request very thoroughly. In making this decision, I reviewed your petition letter, the additional information that you supplied the petitions office via email, the documentation that you supplied and the information that I received from your instructor related to your grades in POLS 339 (F23).
I have denied this request as the instructor of the course has confirmed that 85% of the course work was outstanding (35% essay and 50% take-home paper) as you had only completed the first assignment worth 15%.
As I acknowledge that your academic ability during the 2023 Fall term was impacted by extenuating circumstances as confirmed within the documentation that you supplied, I am willing to allow you to drop POLS 339 (F23) after the academic deadline.
