I have carefully considered your petition request for Credit Standing in PHIL 351 (W24). After reviewing your file, I have decided to deny your request.
Academic Petition and Appeal Regulation 3.3.1.4. states that credit standing is reserved for a course in which a student who has completed all of the work of the class, including the final examination, and achieved a passing grade in the class, but due to illness or other extenuating circumstances beyond their control, earned a substantially lower grade than might have been expected.
I am sympathetic to your situation and understand that this is a difficult decision, however, I want you to know that I considered this request very thoroughly. In making this decision, I reviewed your petition letter, the two pieces of documentation that you supplied and the information that I received from your instructor related to your grades in this course.
I acknowledge from the documentation that you supplied that you have been experiencing a health-related extenuating circumstance since January of 2024 and from your petition letter that you had started a new medication at that time. I recognize that both pieces of documentation that you supplied suggest that you experienced academic impacts during the 2024 Winter term however I see that you were able to achieve high grades in other courses despite these circumstances. The instructor of PHIL 351 has confirmed that although you did complete most of the graded components in this course, you did not complete all of the required Weekly Participation Questions.
I have denied this request as the instructor of PHIL 351 has suggested that you did not meet the learning outcomes of this course based on the work that you completed, and it is unclear from the documentation that you supplied how your academic ability in PHIL 351 was directly impacted by these circumstances.
If you are concerned with the impact that this course has on your GPA, I would suggest that you consider repeating it in a future term. When repeating the exact same course code, both attempts will appear on your transcript however, only the higher grade will be included within the calculation of your cumulative GPA.
