Dear Matthew:

I have carefully considered your petition to drop HIST 228, HIST 218, HIST 109, HIST 231, HIST 251 (W 2024) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.

I have granted this request due to the timeline and academic impacts of extenuating circumstances as confirmed within the documentation that you supplied. Your grades in these courses will be replaced with a DR notation on your transcript.

Matthew, going forward, you will be responsible for managing the impact of your condition on your academics proactively and not after the fact via the petition process. I encourage you to carefully evaluate your progress in each of your courses during week 7 of the term. If you have fallen behind in a course or find the material too difficult, you should drop the course by week 8 of term. The drop deadlines, outlined in the “Important Dates” section on the Faculty of Arts and Science web page, have been established to ensure fair and equitable treatment of all students.

Additionally, I strongly encourage you continue to work with your support persons and to proactively manage the impact of your condition on your academics. If you have not yet registered with QSAS, I encourage you to discuss this option with your health care professional since a QSAS Advisor can put in place appropriate accommodations to help you manage the impact of your challenges on your academics. 

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
