I have carefully considered your request to waive the Petition Deadline related to the 2021 Fall and 2022 Winter terms. After reviewing your file, I have decided to deny your request.
As you know, Academic Appeal and Petition Regulation 3.7.2. states that, "Exceptions to the petition and appeal deadlines can only be granted in cases where extenuating circumstances beyond a student’s control render the student unable to submit a petition or appeal within the specified timeline. The student must be able to show that the extenuating circumstances were ongoing. The student must also be able to demonstrate that these circumstances prevented the student from acting between the time the original decision was received and the time at which the appeal was eventually initiated. An appeal of this type should include a presentation of the specific reasons for the delay and must include documents that support the reasons for this delay.”
I am sympathetic to your situation and understand that this is a difficult decision, however, I want you to know that I considered this request very thoroughly. In making this decision, I reviewed your petition letter, your transcript, and the documentation that you supplied.
I acknowledge that you experienced a health-related extenuating circumstance during the 2021/2022 academic year and I was glad to read that you are achieving academic success at your current university. I have denied this petition request as the documentation that you supplied suggests academic impacts from this circumstance between June of 2021 and October of 2022 and does not suggest any additional extenuating circumstances that prevented you from petitioning these terms within the 1-year deadline (for example, during the 2022 Fall or 2023 Winter terms).
If you are concerned with the impact that these courses have on your GPA, I would suggest that you consider repeating them in a future term. When repeating the exact same course code, both attempts will appear on your transcript however, only the higher grade will be included within the calculation of your cumulative GPA.
