I have carefully considered your petition to waive the deadline related to the W22, F22 and W23 terms and to drop ANAT 100, PHIL 256, PHYS 432, PHYS 490 (F23), PHYS 216, PHYS 317, and PHYS 460 (W24) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.

I have granted this request due to the timeline and academic impacts of extenuating circumstances as confirmed within your petition letter and well as the documentation that you supplied that suggests a need for ongoing accommodations. I will also allow you to drop PHYS 317 (W22), PHIL 247, PHYS 213, PHYS 432, STAT 263 (F22), GEOL 106, MUSC 105, PHYS 216, PHYS 317, and PHYS 453 (W23) past the academic deadline without requiring a subsequent petition request. Your grades in these courses will be replaced with a DR notation on your transcript.

Going forward, I would suggest that you consider registering with Queen’s Student Accessibility Services (QSAS) if you have not done so already, so that you obtain ongoing support from an Accessibility Advisor who can help manage the ongoing impacts of your health on your academics.

Also, it is the student’s responsibility to pause and evaluate the impact of extenuating circumstances on their classes during week 7 of the term. If they have fallen behind in a course or find the material too difficult, they should drop the course by week 8 of term. The drop deadlines, as they have been outlined in the “Important Dates” section on the Arts and Science web page, have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure fair and equitable treatment of all students.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
