Dear Deena,

Thank you for your request to Waive the Petition Deadline for the 2021 Fall, 2022 Winter, 2022 Fall and 2023 Winter terms, to drop DRAM 220, FILM 240, FILM 369 (F23), MAPP 300 (W24) after the academic deadline and for Credit Standing in FILM 201 (W24). I have carefully reviewed your request and the supporting documentation that you supplied, and while I’m unable to grant all of these requests, I want to assure you that I’ve taken your circumstances into account as part of this decision.

I will grant your request to waive the deadline related to the 2021 Fall, 2022 Winter, 2022 Fall and 2023 Winter terms as the documentation that you supplied confirms academic impacts from extenuating circumstances. I will allow you to drop ENGL 100 (FW21/22), FILM 225 (F22), and RELS 137 (W23) after the academic deadline without having to submit a subsequent petition request. Your grades in these courses will be replaced with a DR notation on your transcript. Please know that as instructors are not obligated to keep student grades past 1 year after the term ends, it is not possible to assess your eligibility for Credit Standing in courses from these terms.

I will also allow you to drop DRAM 220, FILM 240, FILM 369 (F23) and MAPP 300 (W24) for these same reasons. Your grades in these courses will be replaced with a DR notation on your transcript.

Regarding your request for Credit Standing in FILM 201 (W24), according to the Academic Appeal and Petition Regulation 3.3.1.4. Credit standing is reserved for a course in which a student has completed all of the work of the class. After consulting with the instructor of this course, it was found that you did not complete all of the components of the course nor did you meet the learning outcomes based on the work that you were able to complete. The instructor let me know that you did not attend all classes during the Winter term and that you did not complete 3 out of the 4 required case studies presentations, making you ineligible for Credit Standing in this case.

If you are concerned with the impact that this course has on your GPA, I would suggest that you consider repeating it in a future term. When repeating the exact same course code, both attempts will appear on your transcript however, only the higher grade will be included within the calculation of your cumulative GPA.
