Dear Jason Crooks:
I have carefully considered your petition request to add ANAT 100 (W25) past the academic deadline. I have carefully reviewed your request and while I’m unable to grant your petition, I want to assure you that I’ve taken your circumstances into account as part of this decision.
As you know, courses must be added on SOLUS within the published deadlines. The deadlines for adding courses have been designed and established to provide sufficient time for students to obtain the relevant permission, determine their interest in the course material, to consider their ability to handle each course, and to evaluate their overall workload.
I understand that you participated in course enrollment late in the Summer of 2024 and that you were only able to enroll in 2 Fall term classes at that time. I see that you enrolled in MATH 121 (FW24/25) on August 30 but I don’t see any attempts in your SOLUS history to enroll in any other Winter term courses until after the add deadline passed in January of 2025. I want to remind you that ANAT 100 (W25) had a large number of available seats throughout the entire Fall term.
I appreciate that you obtained support from the instructor of the course and I hope that you understand that due to your current academic standing, starting a course at the end of week 5 in the term is not in your best academic interest especially since an instructor is not obligated to accommodate a student in missed work due to late enrollment.
Going forward, I encourage you to connect with an Academic Advisor to discuss an academic plan. Please know that Summer term course enrollment is open now in SOLUS. A strategy that you may consider is to repeat failed courses. When a student repeats the exact same course code, both attempts will appear on their transcript however, only the higher grade will be included within the calculation of their GPA.
