Dear Ben,
I was sorry to read about the passing of your grandfather and I want to offer my condolences. Thank you for your petition regarding an additional deferral of the final exam in ECON 422 (F24). I have carefully reviewed your request and the supporting documentation that you supplied, and while I’m unable to grant your petition, I want to assure you that I’ve taken your circumstances into account as part of this decision.
The Academic Petitions and Appeal Regulation 3.3.1.5. states that a student affected by extenuating circumstances may ask the course instructor that the final examination be delayed, for up to one full term after the completion of a class.
I acknowledge that you could not write the final exam for ECON 422 during the regular exam period in December due to the timeline of extenuating circumstances as confirmed within the documentation that you supplied. I want to remind you that you were accommodated appropriately by the instructor of this course with a deferral of this exam in January. With the absence of documentation to confirm an unexpected extenuating circumstance prevented you from completing the exam in January, I am unable to grant this request.
That said, I understand the challenges you have faced, and I do recognize that you were doing well in this course leading up to the final exam date. As a result, I will allow you to drop ECON 442 (F24) after the academic deadline so that your final grade will be replaced with a DR notation on your transcript. If you would like to accept this offer, please email asc.petitions@queensu.ca within 10 business days of receiving this letter.
