Dear Ms. van den Akker:

I have carefully considered your appeal to drop BIOL 334, BIOL 369, MICR 360 (F 2013), BIOL 341 and CLST 201 (W 2014) past the academic deadline as well as waive the Faculty ruling that you be Required to Withdraw for One Year. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request. You may now resume your studies at Queen's University.

As a result of this decision we have reassessed your academic record and because these courses will now show as drops, your current GPA will change to 1.95. Therefore, the €œRequired to Withdraw for One Year€ ruling will be removed from your transcript altogether. As there are also now less than 18.0 units of courses attempted on your record since your last academic assessment, no further rulings can be made until you have reached a minimum of 18.0 units in course attempts. This means that you will continue on academic probation until the time of your next assessment which will likely take place in May 2015 (assuming that you have taken at least 6.0 units or more in further courses). If your GPA remains at or above 1.60 at this time, you will be released from academic probation. The attached document provides further information. If you have any questions about this information, please contact the Faculty Office to schedule an appointment with an academic advisor.

Upon returning to a regular course of study it is your responsibility to choose courses carefully, seek out the advice necessary to improve your academic performance, and maintain a GPA consistent with the requirements for successful completion of your plan. I hope that you will take advantage of the variety of support services available to you at Queen's. Academic counselling is available through an advisor in the Faculty of Arts and Science Student Services Office (F200 Mackintosh-Corry Hall, phone 533-2470) or through your plan department. The Learning Commons in Stauffer Library also provides a range of services, including workshops designed to improve study skills and develop strategies for meeting the demands of academic life. Further, the Health, Counselling and Disabilities Centre located in the LaSalle Building at 146 Stuart Street (613-533-2506) offers personal and academic counselling free of charge to all Queen's students, as well as individual consultation to aid in coping with difficulties of a more personal nature.

If you have any questions about this decision, please feel free to contact the Faculty Office for advice or assistance. I wish you success in your future studies.

Yours sincerely,

J. Hugh Horton, Ph.D.
