Thank you for your petition requesting Credit Standing in ECON 243 and GLPH 271 (W24) and for Aegrotat Standing in KNPE 125 and MATH 339 (W24). After a thorough review, I regret to inform you that I’m unable to grant all of these requests however, I want to emphasize that this decision is based on the guidelines outlined in the Faculty of Arts and Science Academic Petition and Appeal Regulations.
I will grant your requests for Credit Standing in ECON 243 and GLPH 271 (W24) and Aegrotat Standing in KNPE 125 (W24) due to the timeline, severity and academic impacts of extenuating circumstances as confirmed within the documentation that you supplied. Your grades ECON 243 and GLPH 271 (W24) will be replaced with a CR notation on your transcript. The instructor of KNPE 125 (W24) has submitted a final grade of a D minus based on the work that you completed in this course which will appear on your transcript with the notation Aegrotat Estimated Grade.
Regarding your request for Aegrotat Standing in MATH 339 (W24), according to the Academic Appeal and Petition Regulation 3.3.1.3, Aegrotat standing is reserved for a course in which a student who, because of illness or other extenuating circumstances beyond their control, is unable to complete all the work of the class. A minimum of 60% of the evaluative components must be completed, and the course instructor must also confirm that the student has met all intended learning outcomes.
While I recognize that you completed more than 60% of the course components in MATH 339, the instructor has confirmed that you achieved 11.76 out of 85% evaluative components which does not meet the minimum threshold for a passing grade or support the assertion that all learning outcomes were achieved.
That said, I understand the challenges you have faced, and I do recognize the academic impact of the extenuating circumstances that you experienced during the 2024 Winter term, as confirmed within the documentation that you supplied. As a result, I will allow you to drop MATH 339 (W24) after the academic deadline. If you would like to accept this offer, please email asc.petition@queensu.ca within 15 business days of receiving this letter.
Going forward, it is the student’s responsibility to pause and evaluate the impact of extenuating circumstances on their classes before the drop deadline of the term. If they have fallen behind in a course or find the material too difficult, they should drop the course by the deadline. The drop deadlines, as they have been outlined in the “Important
Dates” section on the Arts and Science web page, have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure fair and equitable treatment of all students.
