Dear Lola:

I have reviewed your petition to take more than 6.0 units of courses at another institution on a Letter of Permission, specifically your request to take 15.0 units during the 2026 Winter term. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.

As you know, Academic Petitions and Appeals Regulation 1.7.1.7. indicates that a student in good academic standing may submit a petition requesting to take more than 6.0 units at another institution on a Letter of Permission.

Due to the exceptional opportunity that you presented within your petition request, and provided that you enroll in ECON 310 at Queen’s for the 2024 Fall term, I will allow you to apply for 15.0 units of courses on an International Letter of Permission, including 12.0 units of ECON courses for the 2026 Winter term. Please know that students can take a maximum of 18.0 units per term, including courses taken at other institutions.

Letter of Permission information, including eligibility and application, can be found on the International Programs Office website at queensu.ca/ipo/study-abroad/international-letter-permission. It is important to note that some institutions are not eligible for a Letter of Permission and not all courses are eligible for transfer credits. It is your responsibility to apply for a Letter of Permission through SOLUS and receive approval before applying to the host institution.

Finally, please be advised that Bachelor of Arts Honours students are allowed to transfer a maximum of 57.0 units towards their program and a maximum of 24.0 units towards their Major plan.

I wish you the best with your international studies.

Scott-Morgan Straker, PhD
Acting Associate Dean (Academic)
