I have reviewed your petition to waive the deadline related to the 2023 Fall and 2024 Winter terms and for Credit Standing in BCHM 315 (F24) and BCHM 316 (W25). After reviewing your file, I regret to inform you that I am unable to grant all of your requests however, I want to assure you that this decision was made in accordance with the guidelines outlined in the Faculty of Arts and Science Academic Petition and Appeal Regulations.
I have granted your request to waive the deadline related to the 2023 Fall and 2024 Winter terms due to the timeline of extenuating circumstances as outlined in your petition letter. I will also allow you Credit Standing in ANAT 215 (F23) and ANAT 216 (W24) without a subsequent petition request as the documentation that you supplied confirms the timeline of extenuating circumstances during these terms. Your grades in these courses will be replaced with a CR notation on your transcript.
Regarding your request for Credit Standing in BCHM 315 (F24) and BCHM 316 (W25), According to the Academic Appeal and Petition Regulation 1.1 petitions are only granted where there are significantly extenuating circumstances, which would merit the waiving of a particular Faculty regulation or decision. Extenuating circumstances normally involve a significant physical or psychological event that is beyond a student’s control and debilitating to their academic performance. These kinds of extraordinary situations should be supported by official documentation from a health care practitioner or other relevant professional.
While I appreciate the documentation that you supplied from your friend, I see that you were able to achieve strong grades in all of your other courses during these terms despite the ongoing impacts from the extenuating circumstances that you described in your petition letter. With the absence of documentation from a professional demonstrating that your academic performance in BCHM 315 and BCHM 316 was directly affected by extenuating circumstances beyond your control, I am unable to grant Credit Standing in these courses.
If you are concerned with the impact that these courses have on your GPA, I would suggest that you consider repeating it in a future term. When repeating the exact same course code, both attempts will appear on your transcript however, only the higher grade will be included within the calculation of your cumulative GPA.
