Course: RELS 239
Term: Winter
Year: 2015
Category: Drop a course after the academic deadline

Dear Ms. Satok:

I have carefully considered your appeal to drop RELS 239 (W 2015) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.

Please note that the appeals system is not designed to compensate for circumstances that are ongoing in nature for which the student is unable or unwilling to resolve or manage effectively. Should you find that you are continuing to struggle with keeping up in your coursework, please ensure that you monitor your progress carefully and drop courses, as needed within the academic deadlines (the last day to drop a fall term course for a full tuition refund is this Friday, September 25. The final day to drop a fall term course is Friday, November 6). Any further appeals based on these same circumstances must demonstrate that you were as proactive as possible in managing your academics responsibly. That being said, you currently have two incomplete grades from the summer term and six courses for both the fall and the winter terms. This is an extremely heavy load and I would strongly recommend that you consider reducing it to 4 courses per term at the most (and dropping any additional courses by the academic deadlines if you still find it too heavy).

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.

I am confident that in the future you will make every effort to inform yourself of the academic regulations concerning deadlines as they are outlined in Important Dates Section on the Arts and Science web page. These deadlines have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure a fair and equitable treatment of all students and to facilitate the timely completion of university studies at Queen's.

Yours sincerely,

Johanne Bénard, Ph.D.
Associate Dean (Studies)
