Thank you for your petition requesting to take more than 6.0 units of courses on a Letter of Permission. After a thorough review, while I’m unable to grant your request, I want to assure you that I’ve taken your circumstances into account as part of this decision.
As you know, Academic Petitions and Appeals Regulation 1.7.1.7 at queensu.ca/academic-calendar/arts-science/appeal-regulations/ stress that petition requests to take courses at another institution must directly address how this is necessary due to extenuating circumstances or to an exceptional academic opportunity. Extenuating circumstances normally involve a significant physical or psychological event that is beyond a student’s control and debilitating to their academic performance. These kinds of extraordinary situations should be supported by official documentation from a health care practitioner or other relevant professional.
I understand that you previously transferred 9.0 units from another institutions during the 2022 Summer term and that you are now requesting to take a 3.0 unit course, equivalent to CISC 352, at another school during the 2026 Winter term. I also note that you are currently enrolled in CISC 455 in the 2026 Winter term and are unable to enroll in CISC 352 at Queen’s due to a scheduling conflict between the two courses.
That said, I have denied this request as your petition did not include documentation to confirm that an extenuating circumstance is preventing you from completing your remaining requirements at Queen’s.
While I recognize that CISC 352 is required for your degree, I want to remind you that CISC 455 is not a required course as you can take a different course from the CISC_Artificial_Intelligence to fulfill this degree requirement.
Going forward, I would strongly encourage you to enroll in CISC 352 at Queen’s for the 2026 Winter term and consider replacing CISC 455 with another course that satisfies your degree requirements, such as CISC 474.
