Thank you for your petition requesting to take more than 6.0 units of courses on a Letter of Permission. While I’m unable to grant your request, I want to assure you that I’ve taken your circumstances into account as part of this decision.
As you know, Academic Petitions and Appeals Regulation 1.7.1.7 at queensu.ca/academic-calendar/arts-science/appeal-regulations/ stress that petition requests to take courses at another institution must directly address how this is necessary due to extenuating circumstances or to an exceptional academic opportunity. Extenuating circumstances normally involve a significant physical or psychological event that is beyond a student’s control and debilitating to their academic performance. These kinds of extraordinary situations should be supported by official documentation from a health care practitioner or other relevant professional.
I see that you previously transferred 6.0 units of courses and are now requesting to take your final 6.0 units of electives at another institution prior to May of 2026. I understand that you want to take 6.0 units of specific elective courses to meet the pre-requisites for a post-degree program. However, this is not an unexpected extenuating circumstance that would typically be grounds for a petition request, as it could have been addressed through advance academic planning at Queen’s. While I recognize your goal of completing your degree requirements before May of 2026, your petition did not include documentation to confirm that an extenuating circumstance is preventing you from completing your remaining elective requirements at Queen’s University.
Going forward, I would strongly encourage you to enroll in your final elective courses at Queen’s for the 2026 Winter term so that you can graduate in the Spring of 2026. Please know that once you enroll in your final electives at Queen’s, you can request a letter from the Degree Coordinator confirming your degree completion date, which can be submitted with your application to the post-degree program.
