On Monday, November 17, 2025, the Board of Studies (Board) reviewed your appeal of Associate Dean (Academic) Dorit Naaman’s decision to deny your request for a late add of four ARTH courses in Fall 2025. Board members present that day were Elizabeth Goodyear-Grant (Chair), Christine Sypnowich (Faculty member), Allison Goebel (Faculty member), and Jaiden Watkins (Arts and Science Undergraduate Student representative). Hayley Everson (Director, Arts and Science Student Services) and Katherine Scott (Administrator, Arts and Science Student Services) were also present (non-voting members).
At this meeting, after carefully reviewing all submissions contained in your file, the Board voted to uphold the Associate Dean’s decision to deny your appeal, finding the Associate Dean’s decision reasonable in view of the information and submissions contained in your file and the Faculty’s Academic Regulations. The Board noted that there were no extenuating circumstances (and thus documentation of such) included in your appeal that would explain why you were unable to navigate the removal of the hold on your account in a timely manner. Nonetheless, we wish to emphasize that the Board recognizes the importance of this decision to you, and we want to assure you that every effort was made to explore all aspects of your appeal in our discussion. Our deliberations were careful and comprehensive.
In April 2021, the Queen’s University Senate released a new appeals policy, which you can read here: https://www.queensu.ca/secretariat/policies/senate/student-academic-appeals-policy. According to this new policy, this is the last step in the appeal process for this matter since this decision does not impede your academic standing in your program. An explanation of academic standings can be found in Academic Regulation 13.
