Thank you for your petition requesting to take more than 6.0 units of courses on a Letter of Permission. After a thorough review, while I’m unable to grant your request, I want to assure you that I’ve taken your circumstances into account as part of this decision.
As you know, Academic Petitions and Appeals Regulation 1.7.1.7 at queensu.ca/academic-calendar/arts-science/appeal-regulations/ stress that petition requests to take courses at another institution must directly address how this is necessary due to extenuating circumstances or to an exceptional academic opportunity. Extenuating circumstances normally involve a significant physical or psychological event that is beyond a student’s control and debilitating to their academic performance. These kinds of extraordinary situations should be supported by official documentation from a health care practitioner or other relevant professional.
Unfortunately, your petition presented no documentation to confirm the presence of any extenuating circumstances that are preventing you from taking your final MATH course here at Queen’s in the Winter 2026 term. Fortunately however, there appear to be several courses available on campus that you could take to fulfill your degree requirements. You are approved to register in a maximum of 21.0 units for winter term so you may choose to remain in the extra elective courses you wish to take at the same time. If you find taking 21.0 units is too heavy, you could drop one or two of those extra electives not required for degree completion.
Please also note Academic Regulation 16 (Requirement to Graduate) confirms that students pursuing a modular Minor can count a maximum of 6.0 units of TR credits toward the Minor requirements which you are completing on your current letter of permission. You will not be permitted to count any additional TR credits toward your Minor.
Going forward, I would strongly encourage you to enroll in your final course(s) at Queen’s for the 2026 Winter term so that you can graduate in the Spring of 2026.
