I have carefully reviewed your request to have your appeal heard after the 21-day timeline for submission. I will explain my decision in detail below.
It is important to note that in order to consider this appeal, a thorough review of your file and previous appeals was required to confirm whether or not any of these timelines and/or specific requests have already been appealed. According to the Appeal Regulations, students are not able to revisit the same time period in submitting subsequent appeals. For example if a student has appealed to drop one or more classes without academic penalty in the Fall Term he or she is not able to make a subsequent different appeal in relation to that same time period. In addition, if a specific appeal has been heard by the Associate/Assistant Dean (Studies) the next level of appeal is to the Board of Studies within the proper appeal deadlines. No appeal will be re-heard by the Associate/Assistant Dean (Studies) once a decision is made.
The appeal you submitted outlines the specific appeal requests you plan to make if the deadlines are waived. I will go through each appeal request individually:
€¢ COMM 211 (F 2012): you appealed to drop this course in January 2013 and this appeal was granted.
€¢ ECON 231 (F 2012): you appealed to drop this course in April 2013 and this appeal was granted.
€¢ ECON 212, ECON 232, ECON 262, MATH 126B (W 2013): you appealed to drop and/or request Credit standing in these courses and this appeal was granted.
€¢ MATH 121 (S 2013): you appealed to drop this course in July 2013 and this appeal was denied. You did not appeal the decision to the Board of Studies.
€¢ STATS 263 (S 2013), CLST 205 (S 2014), PHAR 100 (S 2014): in April 2014 you submitted an appeal requesting to waive the 21-day appeal deadline to appeal some courses from the Fall 2013/Winter 2014 academic year. This appeal was denied. You did not appeal the decision to the Board of Studies.
€¢ HIST 257, HIST 400 (W 2015): there is no previous appeal on record concerning the Winter 2015 timeline or these courses in particular.
I would also like to note that you appealed to drop and/or request Credit standing in HIST 280A, HIST 446 and HIST 447 (F 2014) and this appeal was granted. These courses were not included with your current appeal but this does confirm that this timeline has been previously appealed.
As you can see from the summary outlined above, several of the requests you are asking to appeal have already been considered (and some have been granted). I therefore, cannot consider a subsequent appeal for any of the courses listed from the Fall 2014 term and earlier as these timelines have already been previously appealed. I will however, waive the appeal deadline to allow you to appeal courses from the Winter 2015 term. You may now proceed with your planned appeal to drop HIST 257 and HIST 400 past the academic deadline.
Please access on the on-line appeals system at: http://www.queensu.ca/artsci/help/academic-appeals/online-appeal-submission After you enter your NetID and password you will now have a new appeal option called €œSubmit a Late Appeal€. Choose this option and follow the steps. Your appeal letter should explain the extenuating circumstances concerning these particular courses, and include any relevant supporting documentation that wasn€™t included with your prior appeal. There will not be a fee for this new appeal, as it will be considered an amendment to your 21-day deadline appeal so the system will skip over the payment step.
