I have carefully considered your petition to drop RELS 131 (FW24/25) after the academic deadline and for Credit Standing in SOCY 122 (FW24/25) and ASTR 101 (W25). While I’m unable to grant all of these requests, I want to assure you that your circumstances were reviewed thoughtfully and with care as part of the decision-making process.
After reviewing your petition letter and the documentation provided, I am able to grant your request to drop RELS 131 (FW24/25) after the academic deadline, as well as your request for Credit Standing in ASTR 101 (W25). Your final grade in RELS 131 will be replaced with a DR notation, and your final grade in ASTR 101 will be replaced with a CR notation on your transcript once this has been processed by the Office of the University Registrar.
With respect to your request for Credit Standing in SOCY 122 (FW24/25), Academic Appeal and Petition Regulation 1.7.1.4 states that Credit Standing is reserved for a course in which a student who has completed all of the work of the class, including the final examination, and achieved a passing grade in the class, but due to illness or other extenuating circumstances beyond their control, earned a substantially lower grade than might have been expected.
I acknowledge the extenuating circumstances outlined in your petition letter and recognize the efforts you made to access professional support during the 2026 Winter term. I also appreciate the documentation you provided, which confirms the academic impact of these circumstances between October 31, 2024, and May 1, 2025.
While I do empathize with your situation, the grading records for SOCY 122 (FW24/25) indicate that not all graded components were completed. Specifically, the Library Quiz, Research Paper Outline, and Research Paper, together worth 35% of the final grade, were not completed. As not all graded components of this course were completed, you are not eligible for Credit Standing under the regulation.
If you are concerned with the impact that your final grade in a course has on your GPA, I would suggest that you consider repeating it in a future term. When repeating the same course code, both attempts will appear on your transcript however, only the higher grade will be included within the calculation of your cumulative GPA.
Additionally, if you wish to appeal this decision, you are welcome to submit an appeal to the Board of Studies.
