Petition Letter
I hope this letter finds you well. I am humbly requesting to add courses past the deadline as I experienced extenuating circumstances beyond my control relating to my disability for which you can view documentation for on my file on Ventus. I have also included a letter from my psychiatrist which corroborates the severity of my disability for the past three years as additional documentation. The obstacles I am currently facing are a direct result of that.
To concisely draw a direct link between the extenuating circumstances and its impact on my academic performance: I was experiencing severe psychological and physical symptoms stemming from my disability which included depressive episodes, brain fog, panic attacks and more. This happened throughout December to January. This impacted my academic performance as I was unable to attend or adequately prepare for my December exams or January deferred exams. I am in contact with my medical professionals and have taken steps such as taking medication for my disability to manage its symptoms.
For the past term, I was enrolled in CHEM313, CHEM213, and CHEM 311. I experienced and battled a lot of symptoms from my disability which led me to have to write deferred exams in January for these courses (Jan 14 - Jan 16). However, I was unable to write these deferred exams and upon requesting an additional deferral, was declined despite it stemming from my disability and despite having appropriate documentation on file. Since these courses (CHEM213, CHEM 313, and CHEM 311) are pre-requisites for my winter term classes (CHEM 321 and CHEM 323), I was dropped from these courses on Solus and reached out to the undergraduate chair of my department on January 24th. This all happened past the last day to add courses deadline. I was told to re-take these courses again next year but since I was dropped from two courses, I was suggested to enrol in the prerequisites needed for other courses for this semester (CHEM 282 and MATH112). However, since all of this occurred past the deadline, I was suggested to reach out to you to help me add these courses to my current semester, as I cannot do it on Solus myself. I would graciously appreciate your help.
I am reaching out to my medical professionals again regarding this specific appeal and hope to acquire a letter which includes the specific dates. However,I fear that it may take more time to get in touch with them, which if were to happen, I'd miss a lot of course material in the courses I am trying to add. While I am doing that, I humbly hope the current documentation is able to outline the severity of my circumstances to your need.
___________
NEW INFORMATION SENT VIA EMAIL:
The circumstances that have changed are as follows. I have chosen to switch from the BScH program to BAH program, and switch my program from CHEMISTRY to GLOBAL DEVELOPMENT. I want to enrol in the following courses (DEVS 210, DEVS 250, DEVS 306, DEVS 352, DEVS 392 and DEVS 393). All of the prerequisites I need are met and I just need department permission to enrol (for which I have emailed the respective authorities for). I just need help to add these courses as I cannot do that on Solus myself.
Sincerely,
Arishya Aggarwal
