Petition Letter
I am writing this petition as a follow up to appeal 9649 where I was granted permission to complete IN courses from the Winter 2022 semester as I was ill and not able to continue my studies. I have completed all courses that I was granted permission to complete with the exception of PHYS 117.
My concern regarding PHYS 117 is that I was not provided access to all course materials until 2 days prior to my scheduled day to write despite emails to the course instructor in advance. I understand that the Winter and holidays were a busy time; however, after inquiring with the course instructor about additional time to review course material that was provided, my request was denied. In all honesty, I do not believe that it was physically possible for me to benefit equally from the course material that I was provided with for 2 days compared to students who had access to this material for 8 months prior to their final exam. I understand that my situation is very unique, but this left me very uncomfortable as I did not feel I could learn or benefit from this material adequately.
I spoke with an academic advisor as I was concerned, they provided me with possible alternative solutions that I could look into that included appealing or petitioning this decision from the instructor or requesting to drop the course so that I could retake it with adequate time to learn the material. I personally feel that a minimum of 7-10 days with access to all course material would provide me with adequate time/ equal opportunity to learn and feel prepared for the final exam (I again do not have access to ONQ or course material as it has closed). At this time, I have not yet written the final exam.
My preference would be to complete this course due to financial concerns and that I hope to graduate at the end of the Winter semester to pursue graduate studies that I have recently been accepted into for the fall. However, I greatly respect your opinion and decision in regards to what may be the best solution for this case.
In summary, I am requesting to either have access to course material for a minimum or 7-10 days prior to writing the final examination, or have the course dropped and retake physics to take the time I need to properly learn the material.
Thank you so much for your time and consideration, it is greatly appreciated. If you require any additional information, please let me know. I have included documentation to show the date that I was given access to all course material (January 10th) in relation to the final examination (January 12).
Kindest regards,
Jensen Pletch
