To the Associate Dean,
This is a formal letter of appeal for 3.3.1.7, to Request to Complete Any Part of the Third or Fourth Year of an Honours Degree Program at another University (Fall/Winter Session).
I am a student in major of Computing and Create Arts. I just finished two courses at Athabasca University and submitted my credits transcript request to Queens University last week. Before I took them, I already got the LOP permission, which evaluated my application and proved my request. After I completed the courses and submitted my transcript, the faculty informed me that I am not eligible to transfer both courses to Queens. This is because students in the 3rd and 4th year of their honors degree can only take 2 courses (6.0 units) on a LOP or ILOP. I have already been approved to take 3.0 units in Winter 2022 through an ILOP. If I wish to have both LOP courses transferred, I will need to submit a first-level appeal (now called a petition) to waive this 6.0 requirement. Thus, I asked for an academic petition to transfer credits from Athabasca University to Queens. Based on rules of 3.3.1.7, I believe I meet the requirement because of the following:
I have good academic standing. I am a hard-working student with a cum GPA of 3.08.
Courses at Athabasca University are closely relevant to Queens University and they can completely fulfill the concentration requirements. Two courses I took at Athabasca, which are COMP325 and COMP318, can be evaluated as CISC 220 and CISC226 of Queens. Their equivalence is also clearly listed on the Queens Computing website. Also, my grades for these two courses (both A) fulfill the credit transfer requirements.
Last, as an international student, these two courses are critical for my visa status. I hope the school can consider my application seriously and please feel free to talk to me for more details.
Thank you for considering my application. Feel free to contact me if you need any other materials.
Sincerely,
Yuanning Ma
