Petition Letter
Hello,
I am writing to you to petition to drop the course GNDS 215 (Winter, 2023) which I am currently enrolled in. I have been experiencing a series of unfortunate events, including a serious traumatic situation throughout the semester surrounding physical and verbal abuse from one of my housemates. This has been ongoing all semester and has significantly contributed to a negative trajectory of my mental health. The situation recently accelerated and we have taken necessary measures to remove her from our home. As such, my studies have taken a backburner to my own mental health and that of my roommate??s. In addition to this, I overcome many daily challenges of having type one diabetes which has presented additional challenges.
In these home and school-life conditions, I placed a focus on my core courses, and do not see myself finishing the course GNDS 215 with a mark I would be proud of. This course is only an elective for me. I will make up this elective in the upcoming fall semester, which I had previously planned to enroll in to complete the remainder of my studies. I had hopes of finishing this course as I enjoyed the content, but I am still experiencing struggles with my mental health and burnout after seeking counseling and trying to prioritize time for the things I enjoy. I will continue to meet with a therapist to improve my mental wellbeing and meet the goals of my course load in my last and final semester.
Thank you for your consideration,
Abigail O??Connor
