Petition Letter
Dear Dr. Jenn Stephenson,
My name is Jessica Oppong and I have been in contact with you these past couple of weeks. After spending a few days contemplating my decision, I have decided to go forward and drop PHIL 359 from my course load. As you know, the professor had a very upsetting lecture during the last week of school. Since then, I have been struggling with the motivation to continue and try to finish the course strong. I have not been able to look at the class in any positive light and I have been avoiding studying for the final by any means as I cannot focus enough to grasp the course content. I will not reiterate the details of the lecture that upset me and discouraged me completely from the course as you know my situation and I would also like to thank you for your support in this matter. I will go forward and submit the formal complaint as soon as I can, but I wanted to take the necessary steps to ensure that my academics were sorted first. As I am in my fourth year of university and plan to attend law school in September 2023, I was worried about not having the credits to still obtain my Honours Bachelor's degree. I spoke with an academic advisor and ensured that I also enrolled in a Bachelor of Arts General degree so that if anything happened, I would still be able to graduate and get my degree. I have also contacted the law schools I have been accepted to and clarified that the change from an Honours degree to a General degree would not affect my conditional offers. Further, I acknowledge that it is one class that is keeping me from obtaining my honours degree, so I will look forward to upgrading my degree eventually.
The final exam for PHIL 359 is tomorrow, April 23 from 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm, and I will not be in attendance. I will, instead, focus on my other courses and ensure full completion of my outstanding assignments. I, once again, thank you for all the support and advice you have provided me with these past couple of weeks.
