Petition Letter
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to request a credit standing in two courses for 2022 due to my mental health issues and struggles with medications that I am no longer on. During the past academic year, I faced significant challenges with my mental health. I was prescribed medications to help with my mental health issues, but finding the proper medication and dosage that worked for me was a complex and ongoing process. As a result, I faced considerable difficulties in managing my coursework, which hurt my academic performance in CHEM 312 and 221. Although I tried to stay on top of my studies, the side effects of the medications and the dosage adjustments affected my ability to engage in my coursework fully. I experienced difficulty in concentrating, completing assignments on time, and attending classes regularly. Despite my best efforts, I could not perform to the best of my abilities due to these challenges. I am now off the medications and have developed better-coping mechanisms to manage my mental health. I am committed to resuming my studies with renewed focus and dedication. I have included whatever receipts I still have from my sessions with a psychotherapist throughout 2022.
Therefore, I kindly request a credit standing in CHEM 312 and 221. This will allow me to continue my academic journey without any further negative impact on my academic record. I was unaware of the possibility of credit standing until a staff member informed me about it recently. I apologize for not requesting this earlier.
Additionally, I would like to request an exception to the academic deadline for dropping MATH 112 for the Winter 2023 semester. I have experienced issues with the professor's unwillingness to accommodate my registered disability with the school, making it highly challenging to participate fully in the course. Despite my efforts to communicate my needs, I have faced ongoing difficulties in obtaining necessary accommodations, significantly impacting my ability to succeed in the course. As a student with a registered disability with the school, I believe I am entitled to reasonable accommodations per the university's policies and procedures. However, the lack of cooperation from the professor has created undue hardships for me in accessing the necessary support. I seek your assistance in dropping MATH112 from W23 past the academic deadline. I believe it is the most appropriate solution to ensure that I am not unfairly penalized for circumstances beyond my control. I appreciate your understanding and consideration of my request. I am committed to my academic success and will take all necessary steps to ensure my progress toward my degree.
I have provided copies of the emails I sent to work out a solution with the prof. I had missed the midterm due to an exacerbation of my symptoms, so I emailed him to ask for a deferral of the midterm. The only solution he provided was to weigh my final at 75%, but he would not grant it. Eventually, he stopped replying to my messages altogether.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your response.
