Petition Letter
Dear Associate Dean of Studies at Queen¿¿s University,
While completing my second degree at Queen¿¿s University in Computer Science, I experienced many health issues impeding my ability to graduate this spring.
As a result, I am unable to complete courses CISC 282 and CISC 457 from the 2014 Fall Academic Term. On November 6th 2014 I had a breast biopsy for Intraductal Papilloma. Six days after the procedure I was in a car accident as passenger. Immediately following, I continued with my daily activities, attending all classes, working part time and attempting assignments. However, I noticed a major shift in my health; experiencing extreme fatigue, cognitive disruption, headaches, nausea, dizziness and back, neck and leg pain. I saw Dr. Biedermann at La Salle on November 21st 2014. During this examination she concluded that I was suffering from a concussion. I had to stop doing all work until all my symptoms disappeared for a consecutive 48 hours, which took over a month to occur. To this day, I still experience symptoms and notice a major impact in my cognitive ability.
To add to these concussive symptoms, I had to follow up on the procedure for Intraductal Papilloma with a wire-assisted lumpectomy in Oakville by General Surgeon Dr. Callan. This procedure occurred on March 16th and required two weeks of resting from work and school to fully recover. Thankfully, the results from the sample came back benign and the discomfort has disappeared.
I feel and hope that my health is on an upward incline. I am working part time in a fantastic environment that is very supportive and understanding of my health. I have the support of my Professors at Queen¿¿s to take a summer of rest and complete my courses in the 2015 Fall academic term and I am extremely excited to be progressing to better health to complete my second degree.
