Academic Plan
My academic plan to achieve success consists of changing my plan to a history focus, improving my mental health, creating attainable goals and targets for my academic work, and eliminating distractions. By following this plan, my academic performance will improve greatly.
Firstly, my plan to achieve success will have me switch to a history-centred course load. During a meeting with student success services in January of 2023, the counsellor and I came to the conclusion looking at my academic records that it would be beneficial for me to switch to a history plan, rather than my current religious studies plan. By doing so, I will be more engaged with my classes as history has been one of my strongest subjects and is one that I personally have quite a bit of interest in. By switching to this plan, my academics will improve as I will be more engaged in class and will take more initiative and interest in my work.
Secondly, to improve my overall mental health, which had a detrimental effect on my academic performance, I will be doing daily exercises, as well as continued check-ins with my family doctor. Some of my daily exercises will include writing in a journal each day, which I have already begun doing. Doing this, it will help relieve some of the stress of the day and allow me to share what I am feeling in a safe manner, something I was not doing in prior academic years, leading to difficulties in academic spaces.
Thirdly, I will create daily, weekly, and monthly goals for myself and my academics, and have them posted in my room on a cork/whiteboard. By creating attainable goals for myself, I will be able to have a clear focus and understanding of where I currently sit, and where I need to be to accomplish these goals. These goals will be personal, as well as academic to ensure the most positive impact possible.
Lastly, I will remove any sort of academic distractions possible. This will include limiting screen time on my cellular device by placing limits on the amount of time that I can use the device, as well as limiting what times during the day I can use certain apps such as entertainment and social media. Additionally, I will be on campus to study and complete work much more than before. Being on campus and in an encouraging academic environment with little distraction, my academic performance will improve.
Overall, by following this academic plan that I have laid out, not only will my academic performance improve, but I feel my overall health and mental well-being will improve greatly as well.
