Petition Letter
To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing this petition to drop History 207, because I was not aware that the status of Incomplete in a course is not automatic. Although I have completed the course work by printing the required texts and writing the assignments on paper, I was not able to type and submit the assignments until recently. Because I had a long term academic consideration for severe extenuating circumstances, I was not able to communicate with the instructor easily, and I assumed I would be able to continue communication after the initial term had ended. On my record, I have a doctor's note prescribing reduced academic workload and flexible deadlines. In February 2023, I went on work leave due to my illness, that has severely reduced my income and made meeting my needs and attending University very financially strenuous. My goal is to finish my program before I get sicker, because it is my dream to get a degree. As you can see with my academic records, I have been a very high achieving student and am very enthusiastic about my studies. I love studying and if it weren't for my current situation, I would not be dropping this class. My situation is not a result of simply being disinterested in my studies, I have made huge financial and personal sacrifices in order for me to complete my education.
Although outlined in the Consideration form, my inability to communicate was a combination of my misunderstanding on how academic considerations function and my incapacitated state. Although I have completed the coursework but am just needing to submit the work into the system, the history department has said my only option is to request to drop the course late. Ideally, I would like to submit my final coursework and get a grade for History 207. However, if that is not possible at this time, I would request to drop the course and remove the grade from my transcripts. Therefore, I am requesting to drop History 207 from my transcripts, due to my extenuating circumstances making me unable to submit the completed coursework on time.
In advance, thank you for your consideration.
Best,
Hafsah
