Petition Letter
To whom this may concern,
I have recently been accepted to the Queen's AST Nursing Program, and am inquiring for a late drop without academic penalty. My acceptance offer was sent out yesterday/today, which was 4-5 days just after the academic penalty due date. I was hoping my offer would come in sooner so I could avoid this, but unfortunately the time lines didn't match up. If i am to be granted permission for this drop I would be forever in debt, and will be able to start my next chapter as a Queen's student with less anxiety, and more freedom to prepare for the nursing program. My professor has agreed and is understanding of the late drop, as this petition will help to avoid having a fail/0 on my transcript which would ultimately impact my cGPA, or finishing the course as I struggle with physics, which would also impact my cGPA and acceptance to AST as it is a 6.0 unit course. I would like to have this course removed or dropped as I only needed it for my honours, and will now just be doing a 3 year Bachelor of Science, majoring in Life Science; and then moving into my Nursing degree.
I have been struggling with diagnosed anxiety and depression for multiple years of my life and have recently been put on a new medication due to this increased anxiety with my education and university. Since May I have been extremely nervous to do poorly in Physics due to its effect on my acceptance since applying to the AST program or my cGPA, or passing the course all together. Due to this, my already existing anxieties have worsened to the point of speaking with my doctor and having a medication switch. The reason I would like to drop is that I know this course is causing me a lot of anxiety, and I do struggle with physics or any math for that matter, as the last time I took it was in grade 11 (5-6 years ago). I tried to do this in the summer semester to get it over with for my honours, and realized the content moves far too fast for my understanding and I can't keep up with it, and it is causing me a lot of stress and sleepless nights. By the time I had realized how poorly I was doing in the course, as marks have come out very late, I realized that there is no other way to get my grade up, on top of assorting things for Nursing and studying for a 60% exam for this course. The Nursing faculty has also informed my that having it as a dropped course will not impact my conditions or my offer, hence the urgency to drop it on top of the anxiety that it is causing me. I apologize for the inconvenience and i really hope you consider this for me, as this course could impact my AST acceptance when it is no longer needed. I had hoped that my offer would have come out earlier to avoid having to fill out this petition and this process. My offer has been extended to July 5th, so I am hoping to hear back before then. I appreciate your time and consideration and I hope that you are able to help me out with this issue as it would resolve multiple issues. Thank you.
All the best, Leah Buell.
