Academic Plan
I have successfully fulfilled all my academic prerequisites in the Sociology program and have a well-structured academic roadmap in place. I have already completed all the mandatory core courses and am currently on track to graduate from Queen's University in the spring of 2025. During my upcoming study abroad experience, my intention is to explore elective courses that will diversify my knowledge and encourage the development of new skills beyond the range of Sociology. The elective courses I've selected align perfectly with the remaining degree requirements. These elective courses include, Urban Interventions, Graffiti and Public Sculpture, Spanish Contemporary Art, Modernisme: Art Nouveau Architecture Sketched and Explained, Intercultural Communication, and Digital Photography.
Most of these courses are not presently available at my university but are aligned with the culture I will be engrossed in and they are of high interest to me. For example, Spanish Contemporary Art caught my attention because of my love for art, and Intercultural communications seemed interesting to me because I am fascinated by the diverse ways we interact with each other as social beings. The idea of studying these topics abroad where I am able to explore various cultural viewpoints to me is especially appealing. As well, my interests in interpersonal dynamics and social interactions in various social contexts align well with my Sociology major. I believe some of these courses will help me bridge my current academic pursuits in Canada and expand my sociological understandings abroad. Throughout my research regarding studying abroad, Barcelona stood out prominently because of its rich historical background in art, and architectural designs. With this, I am motivated to take courses that talk about the unique essence of Barcelona and expand my knowledge about local art history while being surrounded by it. I am really excited about Urban Interventions, Graffiti and Public Sculpture, Modernisme: Art Nouveau Architecture Sketched and Explained, and Digital Photography, these three courses are not available at Queen’s University. This unique opportunity to engage in firsthand observation of art while studying these topics is new to me, making it an exceptionally profound opportunity. After extensive research on various European universities I feel as if the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona and the courses I choose are a perfect match for me and my personal and academic pursuits. The city, the institution, the diverse culture, and the array of courses align perfectly with my interests.
