Petition Letter
To Whom It May Concern:
I am appealing to have two courses dropped from Winter Term 2015 ¿¿ KNPE 255 (Physical Activities and Health) and KNPE 227 (Exercise Physiology).
The reason for my appeal is that I was unable to handle the amount of schoolwork and simultaneously deal with specific family problems. My dad was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia in May 2014 and required treatment in Boston for 8 months. Since my mom stayed with him in Boston up until January 2015, I had to look after our home in Bermuda. I was also required to be my dad¿¿s caregiver in Boston for a period of time in October when my mother, a teacher, had to be in school.
Accordingly, I took a semester online in Fall 2014. Due to this change in schedule, I dropped course KNPE 225 since it was not offered online. Unfortunately KNPE 225 was a prerequisite course and I subsequently struggled with classes KNPE 255 and KNPE 227 this semester.
In order to prevent this from happening again, I have decided to change my program from an Honors degree to a General degree as it will require less time and allow me to graduate this coming May.
My dad will continue to be a patient at Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston until May 2016 but is currently doing well and can be at home for most of his treatment. My future attendance/schoolwork should be unaffected. I have provided a letter of medical necessity from his doctor at Dana Farber as documentation for his illness, with personal information deleted as necessary.
Many thanks,
