Petition Letter
Hello,
My name is Emma Loewen and I am currently in my first year at Queen's University. I am submitting this petition letter as a request to drop my first year courses and grades past the deadline. I am currently enrolled in a general science program as I thought that was best for being able to choose my own courses, find what I like, and what I am good at. When I was first researching more in depth about courses at Queen's University before applying I was advised that students change their minds and plans as they change and find what they want to do for the rest of their lives. When diving into research I was told that I was able to switch into programs that I may have shown interest in later on. This was not the case for me and I was denied this opportunity when I showed interest in the 4-year Nursing program here at Queen's. When I emailed PASShelp for more information and advice on transfers they told me that transfers to programs like Kinesiology or Health Sciences was possible but that Nursing is a different faculty and to plan a meeting with the head of the Nursing faculty to get more information to see if a transfer would be possible. When I spoke to Barbara Bolton, she told me that a transfer was not possible and suggested for me to speak to an advisor in my faculty about the process of dropping courses and reapplying for next year. I wish to have my courses and grades from first year dropped so I can apply to Queen's University once again for September 2024, but for a program I know and am sure that I will enjoy and accelerate in. I would simply drop my grades for the fall term and apply again, but I am enrolled in multiple dual-term courses, which I was told that if I dropped, the grades would result in a zero and would be looked at by the school when considering my application. Queen's University has been a wonderful experience for me in the time that I have been here and has allowed me to realize the path that I want to take with Queen's.
Now it is just a matter of making it happen. I hope that you will be understanding of my situation and will allow me to drop my courses and grades so I may apply for the program at Queen's that I know I will love and do great in.
