Petition Letter
Dear Dean,
I am writing to request a withdrawal from the course ANAT215 after the designated drop deadline due to severe psychological challenges I have faced this semester.
I have been grappling with significant mental health and self esteem issues this semester, which grew into intense suicidal urges. This has deeply impacted my ability to perform academically, and I believe that my performance does not reflect my ability.
The nature of my psychological urges made it exceedingly difficult to perform well in courses that required a lot of focus, hands-on in person attendance. I was able to keep up in online/self taught style courses. The situation was aggravated by the fact that these challenges were unexpected and beyond my control at the time, leaving me severely unprepared.
In response to these challenges, I have reached out to family and supporting individuals who have guided me through a treatment plan. I am actively refining this plan which has helped me gradually gain stability. However, the impact during the height of my struggles remains.
Given these circumstances, I respectfully request an opportunity to retake this course in the future. I request a consideration for withdrawal; this decision has not been made lightly, but is crucial for my recovery and academic success in the future. I am committed to my academic journey and improvement, and will learn from this experience.
Thank you for your consideration of my petition. I am hopeful for a positive response, and am ready to cooperate.
Sincerely,
David Zhang
