Petition Letter
To whom it may concern,
My name is Connor Naismith, and I am currently in my third year at Queen's and I am petitioning with the dual purpose of requesting to waive the petition deadline and to request the dismissal of my mark in ANAT 215 that I took in the Fall semester of 2022. My reasoning behind my request is that I believe the 'Fail' grade I received in the course is negatively affecting my ability to bring my GPA up, and I do not believe it is representative of my academic success since the Fall 2023 semester. The testing involved with the ANAT 215 class was based heavily on memorization, and as such I did not do well in the course, in large part due to prior brain injuries sustained throughout my life. While I am still waiting to see a neurologist to determine the extent of these injuries (the wait time is well over 2 years for concussion based injuries), this past Summer I had my learning capabilities assessed by a psychological clinic in Ottawa. I can provide this documentation, however the gist of the report was that I have a clear deficit in terms of my memory and capacity to memorize information. I have since changed my degree to Geological Sciences, as it is more accommodating to my disability, and I have seen a stark improvement in my grades in the last two semesters due not only to this change but also a very conscious and rigorous effort to improve my academic success. With this in mind, I would like to enrol in the Certificate in Business program here at Queen's (which requires a specific GPA) to which I have already taken one course in pursuit of (B+ grade in COMM 251) and am taking another this semester (with a potential second if I make it off the waitlist). Despite this, my GPA is still too low to be granted admission to this program, and as such is the primary objective of my petition to have my ANAT 215 grade dropped from my transcript in order to remove hinderance on my efforts to raise my GPA. I understand that I am past the deadline for such a request, however I do hope that the nature of my disability and my continuous commitment to improve my academics may persuade whomever is involved in the judgement of my petition to genuinely consider this request.
Thank you for your time and consideration,
Connor Naismith
