Petition Letter
To Associate Deans,
I, Ajax Wong, am appealing to drop CISC 101 (Summer, 2015) as soon as possible. I regret to inform the Faculty of Arts & Science that the circumstances, which are currently out of my control, are heavily impairing my abilities to complete this course to the best of my abilities. As the Commerce program requires all second years to complete 6.0 credits, within the courses offered through the Arts & Science Faculty, I plan on completing said credits during the academic year of 2015-2016. This is due to the fact that I am currently away from the country for the summer. I understand that it is fully the responsibility of the student to ensure that one has Internet access. However, my understanding was that I would have full Internet access, yet that is not the case. In addition to having limited Internet access, it has been increasingly difficult to seek on-line aid by both the TA and professor. As I am currently abroad the limited internet access I have currently has forced me to utilize only the textbook to gather all of the necessary information, supposed to having full access to the narrated lectures posted on Moodle. As the Moodle lectures are not fully available to me, the textbook touches only on the partial information necessary to succeed in the class, as quizzes and assignments demand much of the information found only within the Moodle video lectures. Furthermore, I have found myself unable to submit assignments, quizzes, as well as forum posts on time due to the lack of available Internet, and not knowing when I will have access to Internet next. Thus, inhibiting my ability to receive full marks for my work without the gathering late penalties. Nonetheless, I understand and fully acknowledge that the deadline to drop classes was May 29th. However, I was away in the Benedictine Abbey in Melk, Austria with no Internet connection, thus unable to drop CISC 101 then. As mentioned above, I fully intend to take this course again come Fall 2015. This is due to the fact that having direct access to TA¿¿s, as well as professors and in-class lectures, will allow me to complete this course to the best of my abilities. As my academic record demonstrates my abilities to succeed in a University based lecture hall, I do not doubt my abilities to do well in CISC 101 during a time where I am able to focus fully on my academics. If you will be so kind to grant me the appeal to drop CISC 101 without academic penalty, an instead a DR notation on my transcript as I hope to ensure further academic success here at Queen¿¿s University. Nonetheless, if it is necessary to provide further documentation, you will find proof of my textbook purchase (which was optional for CISC 101) attached as well as my departing flight confirmation from Austrian Airlines, leaving Toronto Pearson Airport on April 24th, 2015.
