Petition Letter
Dear Associate Dean,
I trust this letter finds you in good health. I am writing to formally submit an appeal regarding my enrolment in the STAM 200 and IDIS 199 courses for the current academic semester. I am currently pursuing a major in Biochemistry, and these courses are integral to fulfilling my degree requirements.
During the Fall semester, I attempted to enroll in both STAM 200 and IDIS 199 but encountered challenges as the classes were already full. Following the guidance of an academic advisor, I was advised to attempt enrollment during the first week of the Winter semester. So, I consistently monitored the course registration system, SOLUS, and successfully secured a place on the waitlist for both courses.
As of January 19th, the last day to add/drop courses, I found myself in the 6th and 5th positions on the waitlist for STAM 200 and IDIS 199, respectively. Encouraged by my previous experience of successfully enrolling in a waitlisted course during the Fall term, I remained optimistic. However, upon checking SOLUS on January 22nd, I discovered that my waitlist positions were no longer visible. In response, I sought guidance from the Arts and Sciences offices, and it was suggested that I submit this appeal.
I am pursuing a path towards dental school, which necessitates the completion of specific courses in addition to my major requirements. Although STAM 200 is offered in the summer term, my schedule is already committed to taking BCHM 218 and physiology courses, along with summer employment. Balancing a full course load, summer courses, and work commitments has been challenging. The IDIS 199 course, while not mandatory for my major, aligns with my interests and could provide a much-needed respite from the stress associated with my rigorous coursework.
At present, I am enrolled in two mandatory courses and three electives due to the unavailability of my required statistics course. Furthermore, I have realized that I only need 6 units of humanities courses for dental school, of which I have completed 3 units. Enrolling in IDIS 199 would not only contribute to my overall well-being by allowing me to pursue an interest but also aid in the cultivation of skills related to managing mental health, crucial for my journey towards dentistry.
I sincerely appreciate your time and consideration in reviewing my appeal. I kindly request your assistance in facilitating my enrollment in STAM 200 and IDIS 199 for the current semester. Your support in this matter will significantly contribute to my academic progression.
