Petition Letter
Dear Associate Dean Stephenson,
I hope this letter finds you well. My name is Victoria Sampson, and I am currently enrolled as a Political Studies and Philosophy joint-honours student at Queen’s University. I am writing to request your assistance in adding a course late for the Winter 2024 semester.
I discovered this morning via an email from Arts and Science Degree Requirements regarding my application to graduate, that I mistakenly took an elective this semester delivered by the Faculty of Health Sciences. To fulfill the requirements of my degree, this course needed to be delivered by the Faculty of Arts and Science. As a result, I find myself 3.0 credits short of being able to graduate right now. I have taken Health Studies courses as electives in previous years which counted toward the degree requirements for my BAH, and incorrectly enrolled in GLPH (a Health Science course) instead this year, thinking it would also count.
I have applied to law school for the September 2024 cycle and intend to graduate in June to attend graduate school in the fall. I understand that we are beyond the add deadline for this term, however, I have identified a suitable replacement course that aligns with my degree requirements and present schedule. I would like to drop my current elective, GLPH 487, and enroll in CLST 200, a course offered by the Faculty of Arts and Science; this switch would satisfy my degree requirements for timely graduation. After consultation with an academic advisor, I have been reassured that there are still spots available in this course and that its meeting times fit within my class schedule. I have taken classes in the CLST department before and believe that the transition into this class multiple weeks into the semester would be relatively seamless considering.
If there should be complications enrolling in CLST 200, I would welcome any other course that meets the requirements for the completion of my degree. I am committed to graduating after this semester and will comply with any requests you may have to see this request through. I understand that late course additions are subject to approval, and I sincerely hope you will consider my unique circumstances.
