Petition Letter
I am petitioning to add GPHY 203 into my course schedule after the deadline to add courses. The reason I am making this request is that I have recently learned that I need to take a physical geography course in order to meet the requirements to graduate with a three-year bachelor’s degree. The reason for the delay in adding this course is due to a few unforeseen incidents. I struggle with mental health problems and last semester some of these problems resurfaced which caused me to fail two courses. Do to failing these courses and through the guidance of mental health professionals it is for my best interest to take this course which would allow myself to graduate this year with a general bachelor’s degree. At this point the best thing for me is to finish university with a general bachelor’s degree.
As my mental health issues have been ongoing, I have the medical help I need to ensure that this semester I can succeed in passing my courses. Along with medical help I plan on going home most weekends to be in an environment that allows me to concentrate more efficiently and have fewer external distractions. I have reached out and have gotten permission from the course instructor Dr. Geoffrey Hall and the associate head of the geography department Dr. Ian Strachan to take this course pending acceptance from this petition. Dr. Hall has informed me that if this petition is accepted that he is willing to go over the material that I have missed. With the support of the professor, getting help from a medical professional, having a plan to work in environments that foster and support good mental health, and my dedication to graduate I feel that if granted permission to take this class I will be able to catch up with the weeks I have missed, and in the remaining weeks strive in this course. I hope that under the circumstances you will grant me permission to take this course as it is the last class, I need to take this semester in order to graduate.
