Petition Letter
Last year I took the first number theory course MATH 311 and I loved it. I also did very well in the course and ended with 100%. The course introduced me to number theory as a field of math. When it was time for course selection, I didn't want to go to math grad school so which math courses I was enrolled in didn't matter too much. But now I've changed my mind and really want to attend math grad school, specifically for the field of number theory. However I will not be able to succeed in this program unless I take the 4th year number theory course MATH 418. I spoke to the course instructor Professor Ram Murty and the Department Head Professor Peter Taylor and they agree that it is very important for my future career that I take this course. Additionally Professor Peter Taylor knows me as a student and emphasized his confidence that with hard work I'll be able to succeed in this course and how important it is that I take this course for credit in order to get accepted into number theory grad school programs.
