Petition Letter
Dear Associate Dean (Academic)
The Request:
I am a third year Philosophy Major and my student number is 20294334. I am writing to request transfer of academic credit and grades for two Queen's University 600-level (relating to the Smith Business Certificate) courses to my Queens' University elective requirements associated with my Philosophy Major.
Explanation of Extenuating Circumstances:
Here is the background: As can be accessed through the following link: https://smith.queensu.ca/academic_programs/certificate-in-business/index.php , the Queen's University Smith Business Certificate requires that you take two 200-level COMM courses and four 600-level COMM courses. Last year, I completed COMM 611 and COMM 600, as I was unable to enrol in these courses at the 200-level. While last year I thought I wanted to pursue the Smith Business Certificate along with my philosophy major, I now have a clearer sense of graduate studies I want to pursue and will no longer be pursuing completion of the Business Certificate. Given that the 600-level courses do not count toward my major, I am now missing six elective credits for my Philosophy major, prior to graduation in spring 2025. Since I am no longer pursuing the Business Certificate, these 600-level courses now count for nothing. COMM 211 is exactly the same course as COMM 611 and COMM 200 is exactly the same course as COMM 600, as indicated in the following link, under
